A New Perspective and Design Principle for Halide Perovskites: Ionic Octahedron Network (ION)

The metal halide ionic octahedron, [MX6] (M = cation, X anion), is considered to be the fundamental building block and functional unit of perovskites. By representing octahedron in perovskites as a super ion/atom, perovskite can described an extended network (ION) charge balanced by selected cations. This new perspective based on ION enables prediction different packing connectivity octahedra solid-state lattices. In this work, Cs8Au3.5In1.5Cl23 was discovered basis BaTiO3-lattice {[InCl6][AuCl5][Au/InCl4]3}8–, which assembled from three [InCl6], [AuCl6], [Au/InCl6] positively charged Cs success design concept discovery opens up venue for rational materials.

A facile hydrothermal method was developed to prepare CH3NH3PbBr3 and CH3NH3PbI3. The as-prepared products were utilized in lithium batteries as anode materials with good performance.
